Ibn ‘Abbas mentioned the words of the Almighty, “When one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say ‘Ugh!’ to them out of irritation and do not be harsh with them but speak to them with gentleness and generosity. Take them under your wing, out of mercy, with due humility and say: ‘Lord, show mercy to them as they did in looking after me when I was small.” (17:23-24)
A girl with purple grayish t-shirt stood silently at the marbled balcony of her room, looking onwards to the sunset which gave a beautiful combination of red & blue colors in the sky, showing different mediums could react with one another. She stayed in the room the whole day, figuring her next move whether to left home & stay with her friends, or just endure move on. Her handphone was on right side, anxiously she waited herself for the sound of a love song she put to signified a caller. The caller with a shoulder to cry on, the person that she seem to be comfortable with talking about herself & the conflicts of her path to happiness. Suddenly, "Amirah? Are coming down for dinner? Mama cook your favorite, seafood noodle", "It's ok, i'm not hungry. I'm going to lay down for a while, if i'm hungry, i eat some from the fridge". With the disappointment captured by the face of a mother that was full of concern.
After hearing the footsteps going down the stairs, the phone sang, calling her to take a risk to go to the unknown. "Hello, are you going or not? We're waiting for you at the bus station", there's her chance to say 'no', but she packed her things & sneaked out without making a sound. "What are we going to do with her? We gave her what she needs, but still she avoided me. We used to be close, but since we got back from Haj, she isolated herself, her brothers are gone to study abroad, they always cheer her up. Now she's with us, she felt alone, are we that boring?", " No, dear. What are talking nonsense? She's just having a hard time in her studies, knowing her brothers set up a high level for her to pass. If i were here, i would also feel that pressure. About that Haj, i think we may overreact when we need her to wear the scarf, she's just a child. Someday, when she realize it, she'll know that we doing this for her sake. Islam never force the believers until they understand the importance of it". The father of three children with a salary of a big incorporated company executive, gave his words to his beloved, trying to lower the burden of a mother to a indecisive girl.
"Amirah! Over here!", the girl ran swiftly to the bus which was waiting for her from a distance. With the short breaths she had, she searched the bus for her friends. "Where are we going? To the mall, right?", the giggle they gave made her more curious than ever, "We're going to the mall, maybe meet some guys, watch a movie, how about that?", with the stare they gave, she got nowhere to run. At a huge mall, they walked in some clothes outlets & boutiques, making themselves please with the possibility of one day becoming a famous fashion model. "I think i know them, let's meet them, come on", the group of girls joined with a group of guys in a cafe', but one girl kept her eyes on her handphone, wondering when would it rang again.
The night gave away their time while they were busy talking until, "Let's head back, i'm not feeling well. Can i stay with you Lisa?", they all agreed to go home although most of them really felt that they had a connection with one of the guys. "Wow, your room is so beautiful, thanks for having me tonight. I was kind of your parents to let me sleep over. Did you decorate the room yourself?", "Well i'm going to be a interior designer. Are you sure your parents let you stay here?". She smiled with a joyful attitude, although her best friend knew she was hiding something. In the other house, the heat was getting more intense when the mother was driving from a Islamic lecture about the patience of a mother, she got a call that her daughter was sleeping over in a friend's house without permission. For that moment, she didn't really accept her absence until she went up to her room & found out she was gone. "Dear! Amirah left the house, the mother of her friend told me she's at her house, sleeping over", "She'll be fine, as long as she's safe, alhumdulillah she's not harm. Tomorrow we go fetch her, you just rest. Let me call her to see if she's alright",......
